A print spooler is a part of the operating system on your Windows computer that controls the communication between the document or file that you want to print and the printer you are printing that information. Regularly printing on a Windows 7 computer will eventually result in any kind of print error. During the printing process, there may be so many different problems that performing without any kind of problem is a difficult task. Perhaps the most confusing aspect of troubleshooting your print spooler is that it is not the first time you can see. The print spooler is controlled by Windows 7 as a service, and it is listed as a print spooler on the service menu. To find the service menu, click the Start button at the bottom-left corner of your computer screen, then click on the Control Panel. Next to the view, click the drop-down menu in the upper-right corner of the window, then click on the mini icon option.

Click the Administrative Tools option at the top of this window, which will open a new Administrative Tools window on the screen. Double-click the Services item in this window to launch the Services window.

Scroll through the list of services on this screen until you locate the Print Spooler option.

Double-click the print spooler, which will open the Print Spooler Properties window. This window contains all the necessary options to properly customize your print spooler and to troubleshoot problems that may occur. By default, the tab on this menu is the General tab. In the menu shown in the image shown below, click the drop-down menu to the right of the startup type, then click Automatic. This will ensure that your print spooler will start as soon as it starts on your computer, which will fail to stop sending your program to the printer. Once you select the automatic option, click Apply at the bottom of the window to apply your changes, then click OK.

You will notice that there is also a horizontal line of the button that says start, stop, pause and resume Each of these buttons does the action that they point to, however, if a button is grayed out, then the action that the button does, is not currently available. Generally a button is grayed out due to the current state of the print spooler. For example, if you can click the stop button, the reason for this is that the print spooler is currently running. If the print spooler is not running, you will be able to click on the Start button to run it again. Additional Print Spooler Options

There is another tab at the top of the print spooler menu that you should check to make sure the print spooler is behaving right. Click the Recovery tab at the top of the window. There are settings in this menu that how the print spooler should react to that event in which it fails. The correct setting for this menu is shown in the image below.
